Whisky is not just for drinking. It can also be a very good investment opportunity, if you know what you’re doing and you know what to look for. One of the great pleasures for us is to find a whisky that we think will appreciate in value over time.
Of course, it’s always nice to try a whisky that you’re going to be shelving in your retirement collection, and we always try and get two bottles: one to drink and one to keep. That’s not always possible, but it’s great to know that the bottle you’re keeping as an investment actually contains a whisky that’s worth having sampled.
The Dubber and Clutch portfolio
What we thought we’d do here is let you know what we’ve bought for investment purposes. These are generally limited edition bottlings. Some of them are not available outside of the distilleries themselves, and others are just no longer available for love nor money (hint: that’s a good thing if you’ve tucked one away for later). Others, however, are fairly readily available – but we suspect that won’t always be the case for one reason or another – and there may be collectors out there in years to come who will pay above the odds to purchase something you acquired very reasonably sometime in the past.
Disclaimer: We are not financial advisors by any stretch of the imagination – and we are purely doing this for our own entertainment. But if you’re interested, we’ll provide you with the links and our reasons for buying the bottles that we purchase as we go… and you can play along if you wish.
